ASU is addressing the international scope of today’s most pressing issues with more than 300 programs in 60 countries, including 20 language and culture programs in Spain, Italy, Romania, central Europe and Mexico. Through meaningful partnerships and educational programming, ASU students are learning global business competencies and developing broader world views. ASU faculty are conducting research and developing solutions for widespread issues like sustainability, health, education and justice.

China

As the second-largest economy in the world, and the United States’ No. 2 trading partner, China is ASU’s most significant global partner. These global partnerships enable faculty and students to conduct research and study across the world, and engage in experiential learning that broadens their horizons. Such partnerships include Sichuan University, and two top-tier research universities, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Harbin Institute of Technology, in addition to the Chinese Academy of Science and the Shanghai National Accounting Institute.

Latin America

In collaboration with Tecnológico de Monterrey, the largest nonprofit university in Latin America and Mexico, ASU has developed various research partnerships and programs that ultimately advance sustainable economic development. Specifically, Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering’s Tecnológico de Monterrey engineering college developed a student exchange program, in addition to a faculty exchange and research partnership in 2002. This collaboration also created a joint master’s degree program in aerospace logistics and includes shared research projects in biotechnology and the formation of a Water Innovation Consortium. Extending the partnership further, ASU and Tecnológico de Monterrey launched the Latin American Office of ASU’s Global Institute of Sustainability where they will conduct applied transdisciplinary research, offer an innovative curriculum and develop solutions for a sustainable culture.

earth and space

In the first program of its kind, joint teams of U.S. and Chinese high school students explored Mars firsthand at ASU’s School of Earth and Space Exploration. In January 2008, 16 students from across China met with eight equally skilled students from Nogales High School. Together, the space-minded students took part in the China Youth Space Academy at ASU’s Mars Space Flight Facility.

journalism

Two U.S. Department of State programs have expanded the school’s reach internationally. The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication is now one of two schools in the world to host a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program in journalism. The program brings mid-career media professionals to the school to learn multimedia, develop professional affiliations and exchange cultural dialogue with students on issues, such as press freedoms, that impact journalists worldwide.
